Dunning's History Now - October 2008

Our New Primary School

postcard of original school
Dunning Primary School looked like this
soon after it was built in 1867 but the number of pupils soon outgrew it. The temporary classrooms seen below had been in use since 1976 and by the new millennium their replacement was becoming urgent.

Demolition Nov07
So for the academic year 2007-2008 the pupils and teachers moved out to share space in Auchterarder, and the much loved (by some) portacabins were demolished, to be replaced by a wonderful modern building. The pupils and teachers returned in October 2008, and almost all seem to love it. (Local opinion of its looks and whether it blends or clashes with the old building is still divided.)
New School Oct08
It's good to see a local tradition remembered in the brickwork. Dunning's Dragon, which was slain by St Serf, is of course the school emblem.
